The Hemorrhoids Centers of Los Angeles (Beverly Hills, Newport Beach, and Huntington Beach locations) are spearheaded by Dr. Maz Ghodsian (a board member of the American Osteopathic College of Proctology), who offers fast and pain-free anal warts removal. Anal warts are a viral infection caused by HPV which typically are the result of sexual contact with someone who has anal or vaginal warts (STD). Anal warts are diagnosed by Dr. Maz Ghodsian during your physical exam. The examination will include the external examination of your genitals. Men and women with anal warts may have other sexually transmitted diseases. STD testing will be performed by the doctors during your examination.
Please note: Dr. Maz Ghodsian is one of only two practicing Proctology Surgeons in California who has completed a residency in Proctology.
My overall experience with Dr. Ghodsian was great! His staff is courteous and respectful. He has very short wait times. Somehow he manages to answer all my questions, make me feel comfortable discussing a very sensitive issue, and never makes me feel rushed. Dr. Ghodsian is meticulous, knowledgeable and has a very caring bedside manner. He is quick to diagnose and treat your medical issue immediately. I highly recommend him. ~ Vitals
Although they are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV – which is an STD) the act of anal intercourse is not a necessary prerequisite for developing anal warts. Anal warts initially present as rather small raised flesh-colored bumps but do have the tendency to develop into rather large anal wart clusters which ultimately (if left untreated) can cover the anal area and the skin around the genitalia.
Anal Warts or Hemorrhoids
An anal wart can easily be mistaken for a hemorrhoid. Anal warts can be raised or flat and they usually don’t cause any pain whereas hemorrhoids can bleed and then may become painful (especially when passing stool). Nevertheless, both anal warts and hemorrhoids can be itchy, thus they are frequently confused with one another. Anal warts are not as large as hemorrhoids but they tend to grow slowly for long periods of time. When anal warts become large, they will also cause problems when passing stool just like hemorrhoids. Our doctors will make an accurate diagnosis for you and immediately treat either condition.
Signs & Symptoms of Anal Warts Include:
- Lump either on the genital region or around the anus
- Soreness and / or irritation
- Mucous discharge
- If warts occur inside the anus, they can bleed while passing stool and may lead to dysplasia or pre-cancer
- Warts can cause pain and bleed while having anal intercourse
How are Anal Warts Treated?
It is best to have anal warts removed immediately upon diagnosis by your doctor – as they could otherwise develop into larger sizes and eventually increase the risk of anal cancer. Anal warts removal treatments will be dependent on your unique case; the most common anal warts removal treatments include:
- Prescription: topical medication
- Cryotherapy: The anal wart’s tissue is destroyed by freezing it with liquid nitrogen
- Laser: A laser beam is used to burn the warts off
- Surgery: If warts are extensive, they can be removed surgically.
