Hemorrhoidectomy is offered by the hemorrhoid specialists at all of our locations: Hemorrhoids Centers of Los Angeles (Beverly Hills, Newport Beach, and Huntington Beach). A hemorrhoidectomy is surgery performed by the Proctologist, Dr. Maz, to remove either internal or external hemorrhoids that are severe. Surgical hemorrhoidectomy is the most effective treatment for hemorrhoids. There are many surgical approaches to a hemorrhoidectomy. There is a conventional excisional hemorrhoidectomy as well as a THD Hemorrhoidectomy/ Hemorrhoidopexy, also known as Transanal Hemorrhhoidal Dearterialization. This is a cutting edge procedure designed to cut the blood supply off to the arteries of the internal hemorrhoids while pulling them up in the anal canal and rectum. The advantage to the THD procedure is that it has less reported pain without cutting or surgical incisions.
Though over 90% of our patient’s hemorrhoids are successfully managed with nonsurgical treatments, on occasion when the hemorrhoids too large, prolapsing extensively or too severe, surgical hemorrhoidectomy may be necessary.
A hemorrhoidectomy is typically only performed by the Proctologist for the most severe hemorrhoid cases. If you have symptomatic hemorrhoids, a less invasive treatment such as rubber band ligation or IRC (infrared coagulation) can be just as effective.
Please note: Hemorrhoidectomy is performed in the operating room under anesthesia for optimal comfort.
Dr. Ghodsian is the best in his field! I was able to book an appointment for an urgent matter, and he was able to see me within a very timely manner. He was absolutely attentive and listened to all my concerns, asked all of the necessary questions, did not jump to any conclusions, and knew exactly what the next step should be. Very thorough and all around amazing doctor. And his office is spectacular. Highly recommend!! ~YELP
There are several types of hemorrhoidectomy procedures available and most can be performed on an outpatient basis. Dr. Maz will speak to you after a thorough diagnosis about which option is best for your specific case.
Hemorrhoidectomy may be the best choice to remove your hemorrhoids permanently if you have:
- Been diagnosed with very large internal hemorrhoids
- Internal hemorrhoids that still persist and cause pain and discomfort
- Both internal and external hemorrhoids
- Had other treatments for hemorrhoids (such as rubber band ligation, sclerotherapy, or infrared coagulation – IRC)
